NLC strike: Banks, secretariats shut down in Bauchi

In compliance with the directive of the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the two-day warning strike, workers in Bauchi State deserted some government institutions.

The affected institutions include Abubakar Umar State Secretariat, Federal Secretariat, Ministry of Education, Bauchi State Water Board, Federal Inland Revenue, and special schools.

The entrance leading to the State Secretariat remains locked, with only members of NLC seen outside the premises.

DAILY POST visited Bank Road, the street housing all commercial banks in the capital, and found banks’ premises closed and empty. Only security personnel attached to the banks were seen at the premises.

The chairman of the Bauchi State Council of NLC, Ibrahim Maikudi, while addressing newsmen at the state secretariat, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance in the state.

He said NLC officials have gone around various establishments, including government offices, ministries, departments, and agencies, to ensure total compliance with the warning strike.

“For now, I think almost everybody has complied, and so the level is highly satisfactory,” he affirmed.
