SEO for Nigerian e-commerce stores is difficult because of the dominance of big players like Jumia and Konga. These platforms have strong domain authority, thousands of backlinks, and technical teams ensuring their visibility. Small stores often use generic templates without proper optimization. Worse, they copy product descriptions directly from manufacturers, which makes Google treat them as duplicate content. For e-commerce SEO, originality is king: unique product write-ups, optimized images, clear category structures, and reviews matter. Nigerian store owners also need to think local. For example, keywords like “cheap Ankara bags in Lagos” may rank better than “bags online.” Another overlooked area is building trust signals—reviews, SSL certificates, and clear return policies. SEO is not impossible for Nigerian e-commerce; it just requires strategic effort beyond uploading products.
