Wike’s threat to prosecute Amaechi, ploy to divert attention, says APC chief

Few hours after Rivers State slammed nine-count charge of stealing, cheating and conspiracy on former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwumeka Eze, has said the move was a ploy to divert public attention from the N345 billion Wike allegedly squandered on his presidential bid and N20 billion on vice presidential dream.

Eze, a supporter of Amaechi, recalled that Wike had directed his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, to commence prosecution of Amaechi and others over alleged illegal financial dealings involving Amaechi, Mr. Tonye Cole, Sahara Energy, and others over sale of state assets, describing the move as exercise in futility. He stated  that former  governor,  Peter Odili, obtained perpetual injunction against probing financial activities of Rivers State Government.

The state government, in a suit marked PHC/1818/CR/2022 and filed on June 7, also listed the governorship candidate of the APC, Tonye Cole, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside, Augustine Wokocha, Sahara Energy Resources Limited, NG Power-HpS Limited and Cenpropsaroten Management Limited as Amaechi’s co-defendants.

But reacting to the moves, Eze said Wike by his actions was  embarrassing innocent and respectful sons of Rivers State due to his type of politics.

Eze said: “The issues he (Wike) raised are the same issues he has used to embarrass his benefactor, Chibuike Amaechi, before his nomination as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I have addressed these same issues at various fora and let me repeat myself again. Nigerians are very much aware of Chief Nyesom Wike’s desperation to drag Amaechi’s name in the mud in order to continue to portray him as a corrupt person before the public.”

“His plots against Amaechi and Rivers APC are exercises in futility. He will not allow EFCC to investigate his former accountant general and his governorship candidate but he is giving directives to file a case against his predecessor even when there is a perpetual injunction procured by Odili against probing financial activities of Rivers State Government officials. Let’s see how the judge will handle this matter and ignore this existing injunction.”
