Will Nigeria Ever Produce a President of ‘Igbo’ Origin?

Marginalization is one of Nigeria’s biggest problems and it is also at the root cause of all the problems and agitations we are being faced with today. Nigeria is no doubt a multicultural entity with languages and tribes running into hundreds. There of course, three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. In-between these major ethnic groups are several tribes and languages. The truth be told, the power shift in Nigeria have only tilted towards the Hausas and the Yorubas for most of the time. If you look at it from independence till now, and apart from the military era, the Igbo ethnic group have never produced e democratically elected president till now.

The Hausas have had the privilege majority of the time, and followed by the Yorubas. The closest one could say of a presidency with a pseudo-Igbo origin is when Goodluck Jonathan was voted into power between 2011-2015. Even Goodluck Jonathan is not a full-blooded Igbo man and so, the Igbo would still claim it was not what they wanted. Isn’t it time for Nigeria to begin to look towards giving the Igbos the right to this presidency? I think this is what talking about as another election is fast approaching and I think Nigerians consider this. Many of the problems bedeviling Nigeria today would not be there if we have equal rights and equal justice. Feel free to drop your comments and join this forum.
